SE Corner, Maine State Prison, Thomaston, Maine 2005
Thomaston Historical Society
By the 21st century, the prison was again quite antiquated. A new larger facility was built in the neighboring town of Warren, and prisoners were moved there in February 2002.
The old prison was demolished in April of that year, leaving a wide empty grassy field and the southeast corner of the former prison wall remaining. The Town of Thomaston has plans to build a town trail around the perimeter, with future plans for light commercial and residential development that will appear as an extension of existing town streets.
